"An ancient country farmhouse with a vast citrus grove, dating back to the late 1800s/early 1900s, partly cultivated with vegetables, fruit, and greens, visible in the virtual tour.
The large land is cultivated using tractors and still in some parts with "hand" sowing and harvesting by Arab labor (partly Tunisian, Libyan, Moroccan).
During the winter, around 11:30 am, the pleasant aroma of Moroccan/Tunisian dishes, with a good presence of garlic and spices, prepared by the workers in the fields in an adjacent rural shed, pleasantly pervades an area of the Masseria.
Inside the Masseria: an area used for bread making and an area for possible catering, with a buffet room for breakfasts.
Outside, within the masseria: a wood-fired oven built with stone, today slightly adapted, the stables now transformed and used as rooms, the dairy cows no longer present here and kept elsewhere from which milk and some cheese are obtained for the private use of the farmer who keeps them, the ancient stone manger, the gebbia (from the Arabic "gebiya") in stone, once used for collecting rainwater and irrigating the fields, the ancient stone country washhouse, with the adjoining well that draws water from clean underlying aquifers, once used for washing clothes, the baglio with the typical inner courtyard (from the Arabic "bahal") of Sicilian country farmhouses, on which today some rooms overlook. The baglio was once used as a mule track, used for passage with the tractor and with the cart pulled by mules and the mare. Furthermore, the baglio was the typical place for "meetings" and parties, as well as a "courtyard of not very discreet and not very reserved chatter, sometimes very vulgar in verbal expression and in the harshness of paraphrasing ("crasciooooo..."cci cchiss"..."attia tuuuu"..."silenzioooo"....) typical of the local culture of these places. The masseria includes the panoramic terrace overlooking the cultivated fields, the vast orchard with typical local citrus fruits and other fruit trees...
The highest part of the Masseria is a PRIVATE room for the owner's use, with an internal spiral staircase furnished in the typical rural style of the area, with exposed solid wood beams and wrought iron, structurally well finished. The adjoining bathroom is covered with typical Florentine "cotto" stone. Once this little room, called the "OFF LIMITS" area, was a kind of "cellar" used as a "lookout" at first. Then it was used, for some years, for the long and expensive medical treatment of cut wounds, in great secrecy, of an important Russian gymnast.

And the story continues...

"This Masseria mentioned above, through the extensive fields, had very fast and direct connecting points that led, walking on foot, through roads and paths in the fields (today called THE VIA DEGLI IMPELLIZCERI"...the furriers' road, to indicate the typical furs worn by the Russians during "the great cold" and also worn by people not from the area, through which there are wheat fields), to a typical rural area known by locals today as ZONA ISOLA and where BETHANIA is located, an institute of "collection," which later became a shelter for poor "young ladies," some with children who were once referred to as "in charge" (in the womb).

And it continues... the story... step by step...

Amidst the tranquility of nature

Guests staying at the farmhouse, during their stay, if available, can purchase vegetables and produce directly from the farmer, using the direct sales system. In the area, they can also buy fresh eggs from the henhouse, fresh cheeses from a private farm in Baronia Benincasa, and locally produced wine from nearby wineries. It is also likely that fresh ricotta will be prepared at ANTICA GEBBIA.
