"An old country farmhouse with a large citrus grove, dating back to the end '800/early 1900s, partly cultivated with fruit and vegetables, visible in the virtual tour.
During the winter at around 11:30 the pleasant smell of Moroccan/Libici/Tunisian dishes, with a good presence of garlic and spices, prepared by the workers in the fields in an adjacent rural hut of support, pleasantly pervades an area of the Masseria.Inside the Massaria:
Inside: an area used for making bread and an area used for a possible restaurant, with a buffet room for breakfast.
Outside inside the farmhouse: a wood-fired oven built with stone, today slightly adapted, the stables now transformed and used as bedrooms, the dairy cows no longer present here but kept elsewhere and kept elsewhere from which milk and some cheese is obtained for the private use of the farmer who keeps them,the old stone manger, the gebbia (from the Arabic "gebiya") in stone, once used for collecting rainwater and irrigating the fields, the old stone country washhouse, with the attached well that draws water from clean aquifers below, once used for washing clothes, the baglio with the typical internal courtyard (from the Arabic "bahal") of country farmhouses of Sicily, which today overlooks some rooms. The baglio was once used as a mule track, used for the passage with the tractor and with the cart pulled by mules and the mare. Furthermore, the baglio was the typical place of "meetings" and parties, as well as a "courtyard of chatter that was not very discreet and not very reserved as well as sometimes very vulgar in verbal expression and in the harshness of the paraphrasing ("crascioooo" ... "cci cchiss" ... "attia tuuuu"..."silenziooo"...) typical of the local culture of the area of these places. The masseria includes the panoramic terrace with a view of the cultivated fields, the large orchard with citrus fruits typical of the place and other fruit trees... "
The highest part of the Masseria is a PRIVATE room for the use of the owner, with a spiral staircase inside furnished in the typical rural style of the place, with exposed beams in solid wood and wrought iron, structurally well finished. The attached bathroom is covered with typical Florentine "cotto" stone. Once this room, called the "OFF LIMITS" area, was a kind of "basement" used as a "lookout" at first. Then it was used, for some years, for the long and expensive medical treatments of cutting wounds, in great secrecy, of an important Russian gymnast.

"This Massaria mentioned above, through the extensive fields had some very fast and direct points of connection that led, walking, through roads and paths of the fields, (today called LA VIA DEGLI IMPELLIZCERI",...the street of the furriers, to indicate the typical furs worn by the Russians during the "great cold" and also worn by non-local people, through which there are some wheat fields), in a typical rural area known from the premises today as ZONA ISOLA and where BETHANIA is located, a "collection" Institute, which later became a shelter for poor "young ladies", some with children who were once defined as "dependent" (in their lap).
